The Technology
Matrix Metallurgy
The Bronze age came to life when ancient Alchemists and Smiths combined cooper and tin creating an alloy that had more desirable properties than either metal did on their own. Man has developed hundreds of modern alloys, such as stainless steel, achieving whatever properties were needed for a given application.
In the past decade, the advent of technology has lead to new innovations like additive manufacturing (3D printing) and nanofiber production. They seek the same outcomes as the Metallurgists of the Bronze age - stronger, lighter materials that fulfill the needs of their inventor. However, cost, manufacturing requirements, and other impediments have prevented large scale industrial implementation of these techniques.
Metal Matrix Composites, however, enjoy the performance characteristics of the most advanced materials, but without the drastic cost increases or manufacturing difficulties. Metal Matrix Composites can combine the heat resistant capabilities of advanced ceramics with the bonding characteristics of metal. Production and Manufacturing utilize more traditional methods which extends the benefits of these composites to mass production and larger applications.
Imagine a metal as strong as steel, as light as aluminum, and 3x more resistant to heat………
